Back outside from the cold and dark penguin exhibit, we positioned ourselves early for the dolphin show. The sun was blazin' so Ty donned his cool looking shades. We watched as the dolphins jumped to amazing heights and we cheered again as the people below us got splashed.
Penguins surfing? Sue why not? This display was featured at the end of our walk through the penguin exhibit. It was more fun seeing the real guys diving and swimming then their animated counterparts. Ty did fall in love with the little birds and we grabbed a stuffed animal on the way out which he still keeps in his bed.
Our next stop on the theme park tour of San Diego took us to Sea World. The strategy here was to time your activities around the major shows. So when the sun broke out early we headed to the big stadium for the signature Shamu event. And he did not disappoint. It is truly amazing to see these beautiful creatures leap into the air and glide through the water on command. We sat just above the splash zone so we could laugh at all the others below us who got really soaked with smelly salt water.
Last one of the group from Legoland. We diverted over to the kids playground area where of course all things are made of Legos. Ty climbed up this tree house so he could get a good look at his surroundings.
How could you go to Legoland and they not give you an opportunity to create your own things? Ty and I worked on our own submarine rocket car. They also gave us a special Lego brick to take home only available at the factory. Cool.
While we were waiting in line to go on some Lego boats to float around a lagoon, Ty stuck his head inside this shark's mouth. He was too distracted at all the things going on to look at the camera however. Doesn't matter, it's still cute.
One of the coolest parts of Legoland is seeing how their engineers have recreated some major cities to scale. We saw San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas among them. Here Ty stands in front of the Sphinx at the Luxor. If you also wander down the right path, you can see behind the scenes and watch some of the engineers at work. And I thought that spaceship I made when I was 6 was cool.
Today was the first of the 3 days of hitting the theme parks. We started with Legoland, which Dad had never been to either. Ty is shown here in front of the park before it opened so he was chillin in his stroller. The day was very overcast but that didn't dampen our fun at all.
We drove up to LA for the day from San Diego to visit with family. Crazy cousin Cam (he needs a job if anyone wants to hire an award winning television writer) loved goofing with Ty by the pool.
The resort we stayed at had this cool little water playground for the kids. Ty had a blast every afternoon cooling off and running under the sprinklers. His favorite were the giant water cannons which he tried to aim at me as much as possible.
