TeePee MonKee

After 200+ posts sometimes my clever titles get a little weird. But back in Scottsdale my parents took us to a cool kid's clothing store. Inside the store they had a bike which Ty rode around while we all discussed which outfits we should get him. Once we checked out, we noticed he did not seem to be around, but knew he had not left the store. Sure enough in the center of the store was a Teepee. Ty was laying down comfortably using a giant stuffed monkey as a pillow. I took a cute shot of that, but this one turned out better when he sat up.

Scottsdale Pose

We had fabulous weather for the few days we spent in AZ with my folks. Wandering around the grounds at the Four Seasons, Ty struck this pose with no coaching from me. Is there a catalog model in this kid already?

Lucky's Hoops

OK. It is not St. Patty's anymore, and actually the photo was taken a day after that, but it is still a cute picture. Perhaps we will say this is an early prediction that the Celtics of Boston will finally bring a title back to that town. That may be blasphemy coming from a Spurs fan now, but I just enjoy the whole sports world and good competition. I also recognize an awesome squad when I see it.

And back to the Irish thing... Ty's cousin in NYC is actually half-Irish. Her Dad mentioned that she attended the big parade in NYC and had a blast. Maybe one year Ty will make it up for that or get to see the river dyed green in Chicago.

Pony Rides!

At a different birthday party (actual it was a double for 2 girls in his class) there were ponies for the kids to ride. As far as I know, Ty had never been on a horse. He was a bit timid at first, but soon he got the nerve to get up on the horse's back. His favorite of the 2 ponies was of course the one with hand print "tattoos".

Is height an advantage in air hockey?

We are back from AZ, but there are still a bunch of pics to catch up on before we start to display those. Here is a funny shot from a birthday party Ty attended last month. Moments later, I slid a bench up so that his friend could see a little better above the table. It is fun to watch the kids just bang the puck around for a few minutes, but ever mindful that their fingers don't get pinched.

Pop Candy

Greetings from Scottsdale, AZ. Ty and I just arrived for our annual spring break vacation with my parents. There will not likely be any more postings until we return and we will have loads to share.

In the meantime, Dad thought he would share his moment of net fame. I attended a party for readers of the Pop Candy blog put out by USA Today during SXSW in Austin. One of the photos taken of me made the website. Whitney the author mistakenly remarked a group of us making the hook 'em sign as a bunch of "metalheads". I am on the end in the Slusho shirt.

Catch you all soon.

Moo-lan Ryan

Last weekend we headed over to an open house at the Dell Diamond to catch some behind the scenes action with the Round Rock Express. We got to see the locker room (above) and then watch people have batting practice on the field. Ty cheered every time someone hit it out of the infield. Here he is (below) in front of one of those famous Cow Parade statues done for the team.

Mission Accomplished!

A few posts ago I wrote about how I had found a great toy that I wanted to give to Ty as part of an incentive to complete a "station" in his swim program. We are happy to report that Ty passed with flying colors. He held his breath underwater for 5 seconds while gliding in the water. At the end of the lesson he got to ring the gong next to the pool which signals to all he passed that station and would be moving on to the next challenge. In addition to myself, his PaPa also had the honor of witnessing the feat.

And here you see him tonight with his reward: the Dinoco version of Chick Hicks.

Congratulations Ty!

The Earth Loves Me

Ty said this to me tonight:

"I love you as the Earth loves me."

Puzzled and quite honored by this statement I asked for an explanation.

"The Earth talks to little kids and loves the little kids. But the Earth doesn't talk to grown ups."

Falling Asleep

Sometimes kids amaze me. Last night after a dinner of pizza and corn, Ty sat on the couch with me so we could call my parents who are currently in Arizona. Ty talked for a minute or so then gave me back the phone. I chatted for a bit and then he asked for the phone back. He simply wanted to tell them he loved them. This I am sure made my Mom tear up since she is famous for being emotional (she cried every year I left for camp and boarding school).

Well I got involved in the conversation again and Ty put his head on my stomach. Maybe 5 minutes later I realized he had gotten very quiet. Sure enough I looked down and he was fast asleep. I had basically been talking inches from his ear and he still managed to crash. Amazing! Wish I could do that.

Off to Chicago again. Be back to tell you all how the bribe went. Thanks again for all the comments.

Teamwork

The White Sox had their first game yesterday. They played well and it ended up a 10-10 tie after 2 innings. Ty batted once and got to play the pitcher's position in the 2nd inning where he fielded a few grounders.

We are quickly making new friends on the team. Here is Ty with Mikey the coach's son. You can always count on 4 year olds to be serious in front of the camera.
