Pecan Street Festival

First sign that Texas slang is wearing off on me: used to pronounce Pecan as "P-CAN" and now am adopting the softer "PUH-CAHN". So with that in mind you can say Pecan Street Festival to yourself at home and feel like you're a native Austinite.

Ty and I headed downtown one recent weekend for this longstanding tradition here. Covering multiple blocks of 6th Street (formerly known as Pecan Street) it offers great food, shopping and activities. Ty poses here in front of tie-dye work with our now iconic Frost Bank Tower in the distance. In the second photo, we found a booth where kids could paint flower pots for free. Ty used the sponge brushes to create his own rainbow of colors. We are still deciding what to plant in that pot. Suggestions welcome.

The day also involved watching a juggler, eating cupcakes, and winning a giant stuffed fish from a cruise line company when Ty correctly answered the question: "What is the 3rd planet from the sun?"

It's been a while since I visited...wow! Ty has grown up so much! He's not a little boy any longer, he's a big guy. I guess they do grow 'em big in Texas!
